Joseph R. Jones Named Dean of School of Education

Joseph R. Jones has been named Dean of the School of Education at Gordon State College.

He will begin his position on July 1.

一道本不卡免费高清Jones, who attended Gordon State in 1993-94, earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Secondary Education. He earned his Ph.D. from The University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.

After 15 years in academia, Dr. Jones returned to the high school classroom as a special education teacher in an English co-taught classroom.

Jones is known nationally for his research addressing homophobia and bullying in educational environments. In 2014, he was awarded a prestigious award from Auburn University and the National Anti-Bullying Summit for his scholarship and service in attempting to create safe schools for all students. In 2017, he was awarded the Stonewall Service Award from NCTE/CCCC. The national award recognizes the impact of his scholarship.

一道本不卡免费高清Jones said he was drawn to Gordon because it offered a great opportunity for growth of which he wants to be a part.

“I also like the fact that it is an access institution and is very student centered and focused on student development and success,” Jones said.

Jones is relocating to Macon. He enjoys tennis and golf and spending time with his yellow lab, Brick.

Dr. Jones brings a wealth of higher education knowledge to his new role,” said Dr. Jeff Knighton, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. “We are excited to have him head the School of Education.”
